Let’s rewind to a version of me you haven’t met:
47 years old.
Fresh out of fertility treatments.
Holding not one, but TWO brand-new humans.
Running on iced coffee and panic.
One of my twins had full-on colic. The other? Less screamy, but still buzzed with nervous system static like he’d swallowed a live wire.
And me? I was cracked wide open.
Postpartum anxiety hit like a freight train.
I felt like I was failing them, failing myself, failing everyone.
My gut was wrecked, my sleep nonexistent, and don’t even ask about digestion—let’s just say I was bloated enough to be mistaken for still pregnant.
The only thing that calmed any of us down…
Was the Earth.
When I Say “Grounding Saved Me,” I Mean It Literally
Each morning, in whatever postpartum-mashed outfit I could throw on, I grabbed the boys and we hit the backyard.
Shoes off. Feet to soil. No screens. No noise. Just dirt, grass, breath, and presence.
One twin would wail in my arms until I touched the ground—and then… silence.
The other would get this dreamy, heavy-lidded look like he’d just taken a shot of baby whiskey.
And me? The swirl in my chest would finally slow down.
My digestion would gurgle to life again.
My shoulders would drop. My jaw would unclench. It felt like my whole body finally was able to stop and take a breathe.
It became our daily ritual.
Not for fun. Not for the ‘gram.
But for survival.
Fast-Forward to Today…
They’re five now. Wild, hilarious, sometimes feral.
And you know what? We still ground every freaking day.
Because when we don’t? You can feel it.
Everyone’s short-tempered.
I’m overstimulated.
The vibe in the house feels like static.
Then I remember—we need to recharge.
So we step outside, toes in grass, maybe water the lemon trees they planted last year, and bam—we’re back. Regulated. Reconnected.
It’s the cheapest therapy I know.
Your Nervous System is Not Meant to Live on Concrete
Here’s the thing most people aren’t aware of:
Your body is an electrical system.
Your heart, brain, and gut all fire via tiny electrical signals.
And the Earth? She’s a giant battery. A negatively charged, inflammation-neutralizing, nervous-system-soothing source of healing.
But most of us live completely disconnected from her.
Insulated homes. Rubber-soled shoes.
Artificial light. Overstimulated brains.
And we wonder why we feel anxious, bloated, tired, and disconnected from our bodies.
Why our “clean” food still leaves us inflamed.
Why our probiotics aren’t doing a freaking thing.
Science Time
Grounding (aka Earthing) isn’t woo. It’s electro-magnetic medicine with receipts:
Lowers cortisol (stress hormone)
Boosts GABA (your calm-down neurotransmitter)
Improves HRV (heart rate variability = better stress resilience + sleep)
Decreases CRP (C-reactive protein aka an inflammation marker)
Activates the vagus nerve (aka the queen of digestion, regulation, and inner peace)
One study showed grounded people had faster recovery from injury, lower white blood cell count (a stress indicator), and better sleep. Another? Reduced pain. Better digestion. Regulated immune response.
And unlike that expensive supplement you’re micro-dosing and praying over… this is free.
True Gut-Healing is More Than What You Eat
Here’s the truth no one tells you when you're desperate to feel better:
You can eat organic, go gluten-free, cut out dairy, do Whole30 six times…
But if your nervous system is stuck in “fight or flight,”
Your gut literally won’t digest properly.
Stress shuts down enzyme production.
It slows motility.
It messes with stomach acid.
It triggers histamine responses, food sensitivities, and bloat from your ‘safe’ meals.
Grounding calms the chaos.
It flips the switch from survival to safety.
One of my clients—no joke—texted me this:
“Bonni, I just had a poop worth celebrating. That was another of your woo-woo magic tricks!”
(She loves to call me out about my “magic tricks” that aren’t actually magic.)
I’ve got dozens of those stories.
Women who stopped living in food fear.
Who started sleeping deeper.
Who stopped needing 14 supplements to have a normal day.
You Don’t Have to Be a Homesteader to Touch the Ground
You also don’t need to move to a farm (though, 10/10 would recommend).
Here’s how you can start:
🌱 Walk barefoot on grass, soil, sand, or stone
🧘♀️ Sit or lay down outside—let your spine connect to Earth
🛁 Soak your feet in a salt or mineral bath
🍵 Step outside with your tea in the morning—breathe, connect, be still
🛏 Use grounding mats while you sleep (especially in winter or apartments)
Even 3 minutes is better than none.
Don’t overthink it. Just touch the dirt, or a stone, or grass, or anything that Mother Earth created.
Remember …
Gut healing isn’t a checklist.
It’s not just about what goes on your plate.
It’s about flow. Rhythm. Reconnection.
It’s about reminding your body what safe feels like.
And Mama Earth—she remembers.
She holds the frequency your nervous system craves.
She will always hold you steady.
You are an energetic being. Mama Earth is your original charger.
Go plug yourself back in.
